House Bill 1468, Which Was Heard in Senate Committee Today, Seeks to Allow Permitless Carry in Missouri
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today urged lawmakers to reject HB 1468, a bill that would dismantle Missouri’s concealed carry permitting system, allowing some violent criminals, certain repeat drug offenders and people with no firearms safety training to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public. The bill was heard in the Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety Committee today. Recent polling demonstrates that 76 percent of Missourians—including 72 percent of those in gun-owning households—oppose permitless carry.
Along with HB 1744, HB 2698 and SB589 — which would expand “Stand Your Ground” and allow guns on college campuses – HB 1468 is one of a package of dangerous gun bills under consideration in Jefferson City this legislative session.

“Overwhelming majorities of Missourians—gun owners and non-gun owner alike—support our existing law, which requires safety training, a background check, and a permit to carry a concealed, loaded handgun in public. It defies common sense to dismantle our concealed-carry laws and make it easier for dangerous people to carry hidden, loaded handguns – yet our lawmakers seem determined to ignore their constituents’ wishes. Concealed carry permits ensure that core public safety standards are preserved when people carry concealed guns in our communities.
