Hundreds of Students Demand Action Volunteers Play Major Role In Helping Over 23,000 Young Voters Register During National Voter Registration
Day

With just over five weeks remaining until Election Day, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, the grassroots arms of Everytown for Gun Safety, are doubling down on their efforts to get out the vote for gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

In the past week, grassroots volunteers attended over 450 virtual campaign actions, including a group of over 1,300 Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers who made more than 55,000 calls, sent 570,000 text messages, and completed 60 literature drops, delivering pamphlets, flyers and door hangers to residential areas across the country.

To date, more than 600,000 calls have been made, over 875,000 texts sent, and 300 literature drops have taken place in an effort to help voters create their Voter Action Plan and confirm their support for gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

Young volunteers were also a major part of last week’s success, with over 300 Students Demand Action volunteers and survivors of gun violence hosting a national day of action to text and call young voters and highlight the importance of voting in the 2020 election. Volunteers completed 10,000 calls, sent over 120,000 texts and helped 23,000 young voters to register – all while juggling classes, work, and extracurricular activities.

Students Demand Action Volunteer of the Week:

High school junior, Peren Tiemann, is a National Text-Team Captain, a leader in her high school Students Demand Action group, and a member of the Students Demand Action National Advisory Board. This week, Peren played an integral role in the success of Students Demand Action’s National Voter Registration Day work, kicking off her phone banking shift by helping to register voters in Florida starting 6:00 AM and closing out with a team icebreaker at 11:30 PM EDT. Registering voters is extremely important to Peren because she is not yet old enough to vote herself.
