The Minnesota chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, the grassroots networks of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement following a shooting today at a health clinic in Buffalo in which five people were shot. Details are still developing as to the condition of those wounded in today’s shooting.
“Our hearts ache for the health care workers and patients who were wounded and traumatized in today’s shooting,” said Jessica DeWeerth, a volunteer with the Minnesota chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Our communities are reeling and exhausted from the dual public health crises of gun violence and COVID-19. Gun violence is preventable but we need action from our leaders to prevent people with dangerous histories from having easy access to guns.”
Statistics about gun violence in Minnesota are available here, and Everytown’s Gun Law Navigator – which shows how Minnesota gun laws compare to those of other states – is available here.
