Moms Demand Action Volunteers Greet Lawmakers at State Capitol and Urge Senate Committee Chairman Zirkin and the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee to Move SB 727 Forward
Volunteers Have Repeatedly Visited Annapolis throughout Session to Make Their Voices Heard
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Volunteers with the Maryland chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, greeted state legislators this morning at the state capitol and urged them to move Senate Bill 727 and House Bill 1424 out of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and House Judiciary Committee and onto the floor for a vote. The legislation would require convicted domestic abusers to surrender their firearms once they become prohibited from possessing them. The bills have remained mired in committee throughout the legislative session despite repeated visits to the capitol from hundreds of Maryland Moms Demand Action volunteers.
STATEMENT FROM DANIELLE VEITH, VOLUNTEER WITH THE MARYLAND CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“We returned to Annapolis this morning for the same reason we have continually shown up throughout the session: to hold lawmakers accountable and encourage them to stand up for Maryland women and families. The session may be winding down, but it most certainly is not over. Chairman Zirkin has a moral obligation to bring this life saving domestic violence bill to a vote. We already prohibit abusers from possessing guns in Maryland, but we let those same abusers keep the guns they already own once they’re convicted. That simply doesn’t make sense and we came back to Annapolis once again today to let our state leaders know we won’t stand idly by as they put our citizens at risk.”
