BALTIMORE – The Maryland chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement after Tyrone Ray, the grandson of Maryland House Majority Whip Talmadge Branch, was shot and killed in Baltimore on Monday. According to preliminary news reports, the 22-year old was chatting with two people when those people opened fire. He died a short time later at a hospital. According to The Baltimore Sun, he was the third man killed in Baltimore since Friday night in a string of seven shootings that also hurt five other people.

Across the country, more than 90 Americans are killed by gun violence every day, and hundreds more are injured. More information about U.S. gun violence is available here.

STATEMENT FROM KAREN REMALEY, VOLUNTEER WITH THE MARYLAND CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Every time gun violence makes headlines in Baltimore, a real person is lost and a real family suffers. We send our deepest condolences to Tyrone’s family and Delegate Branch, as well as to the other families who suffered the trauma of losing a loved one to gun violence this weekend in our city, and we’ll be keeping them in our thoughts on this difficult day. It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s imperative that we work together to protect our communities from senseless gun violence.”
