TOPEKA — Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Derek Schmidt and re-elected Laura Kelly as Governor.
“Kansans know that responsible gun ownership goes hand in hand with common sense laws to keep guns out of dangerous hands, which is why voters just reelected Governor Laura Kelly, who is a tested gun sense champion,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to count Governor Kelly as a partner, and we are eager to help her pass the common-sense gun safety laws that Kansans are demanding.”
“Governor Kelly knows the importance of gun safety and has been a trusted leader on common-sense gun laws during her tenure as Kansas’ governor,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Moms Demand Action volunteers were proud to support her re-election campaign, and we look forward to continuing to make progress on gun safety with Governor Kelly in the years ahead.”
“Governor Laura Kelly is a leader in the fight for gun safety, and we know that she will continue to fight for our families in her next term as Governor,” said Christine Jackson, a volunteer with the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We’re proud to stand alongside her in this victory, and we’ll have her back as she works to keep Kansans safe.”
Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund spent $500,000 in Kansas this election to support Governor Laura Kelly’s re-election.
