Since 2017, Hundreds of Moms Demand Action Volunteer Leaders Have Run for Elected Office and Dozens Have Won Seats, Including 43 Who Won in 2020
NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund today endorsed Moms Demand Action volunteer leader Paige Dixon, who is running in Texas for Lewisville ISD School Board, Place 1 in the May 1 election. In addition to serving as a Moms Demand Action volunteer leader, Dixon is also a veteran and former PTA president.
Since 2017, hundreds of Moms Demand Action volunteer leaders have run for elected office and dozens have won seats – from town council and school board to U.S. Congress, including 43 who won in 2020. Already in 2021, three endorsed volunteer leaders have won or advanced to general elections. These endorsed candidates represent key gun violence prevention leaders.
“When Moms Demand Action volunteers speak, their communities listen, and so we’re excited to see leaders like Paige take their advocacy to the next level and run for office,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to endorse Paige, whose leadership in the gun safety movement will help her hit the ground running and keep schools safe once in office.”
“Moms Demand Action volunteers are leaders in their communities, organizing, advocating, and helping affect change each and every day — which is what makes them such effective elected officials,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Volunteer leaders like Paige have already shown that they’ll do whatever it takes to keep our communities safe from gun violence, and I’m thrilled to see her continue that work as a candidate and in office.”
