Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Endorses Gun Violence Survivor and Moms Demand Action Volunteer Movita Johnson-Harrell in Pennsylvania Special Legislative Election

February 25, 2019

Johnson-Harrell Has Been a Moms Demand Action Volunteer Since 2016

PHILADELPHIA – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund today endorsed Movita Johnson-Harrell, a volunteer with the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and gun violence survivor, in the March 12 special election to represent Pennsylvania House of Representatives District 190. Johnson-Harrell has been personally affected by gun violence: Her father, brother, cousin and 18-year-old son were tragically shot and killed at different points in her life. Johnson-Harrell is running on a platform of ending gun violence.

Moms Demand Action volunteers and survivors of gun violence know the toll of gun violence that kills 100 Americans every day and wounds hundreds more – and they are running for office to enact change and stand up to the gun lobby’s priorities.

“No one would have blamed Movita Johnson-Harrell for stepping back from the world after her son was killed by gun violence — but instead she stepped up and vowed to save others from tragedy,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to endorse Ms. Johnson-Harrell, and we look forward to partnering with her to achieve our shared goal: passing common-sense gun safety laws.”

“After more than a dozen Moms Demand Action volunteers won elected office in 2018, I’m so excited to see yet another strong candidate emerge from our grassroots army of volunteers,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Movita Johnson-Harrell has been invaluable to our Pennsylvania chapter and I have no doubt that she’ll be an incredible leader at the statehouse, too.”

“We could not be more proud of Movita Johnson-Harrell for running for Pennsylvania’s 190th House District,” said Jennifer Lugar, a volunteer with the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and member of the Everytown Survivor Network. “She knows we need to do more in Pennsylvania to prevent gun violence. Her voice is much needed in the statehouse and we look forward to supporting her election.”
