NEW YORK — Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action announced an urgent gun safety presidential forum on Saturday in Des Moines in the wake of the tragic mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas.

The forum will be for members of the Everytown Gun Safety Action Fund including volunteers with Moms Demand Action, survivors of gun violence and volunteers with Students Demand Action from around the country who will gather in Des Moines to learn about each candidate’s action plans to address gun violence in the wake of the recent mass shootings and the daily gun violence that kills 100 people every day and wounds hundreds more.

Confirmed attendees so far include:

  • Mayor Pete Buttigieg
  • Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro
  • Governor Jay Inslee
  • Senator Amy Klobuchar
  • Senator Bernie Sanders
  • Senator Elizabeth Warren

“There has never been a more urgent time for 2020 candidates to tell Americans exactly how they will address gun violence,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Even before the horrifying events in El Paso and Dayton — not to mention the daily gun violence in Baltimore, Brooklyn, Chicago, Houston and other cities — presidential candidates were speaking out about gun safety as never before. But now more than ever, Americans need to focus on the role the next President and our other elected officials will play in determining the safety of our children.”

“There is not a parent left in America who isn’t terrified that their child could be next,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We need to know now how the next president will address gun violence and work with urgency to keep our families safe. In turn, Moms Demand Action volunteers will be out in force to support candidates we know will prioritize public safety.”
