Annual Conference Brings Together Thousands of Gun Violence Survivors and Grassroots Volunteers for Trainings

NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund (“Everytown for Gun Safety”) today announced that Speaker Nancy Pelosi, U.S. House of Representatives, is participating in Gun Sense University, the organization’s annual training conference. Speaker Pelosi will appear in a conversation with Everytown President John Feinblatt and accept the Gun Sense Lawmaker of the Year award, which will be broadcast on Facebook and Twitter on Saturday, August 8.

Gun Sense University brings together gun violence prevention movement leaders from every state to share best practices, participate in training sessions about effective organizing and prepare for the crucial work ahead in 2020.

“Under Speaker Pelosi’s leadership, the U.S. House passed the first meaningful gun safety legislation to succeed in either chamber of Congress in decades, and they did it in the first fifty days of the 116th Congress,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “There was no question that Speaker Pelosi had to be Everytown’s first-ever Gun Sense Lawmaker of the Year, just as there is no question that she will never stop pushing for the life-saving laws our nation so desperately deserves.”

“Speaker Pelosi has proven she’ll do whatever it takes to keep our families safe from gun violence — that’s why we named her as the first-ever Gun Sense Lawmaker of the Year,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “We are thrilled to welcome Speaker Pelosi to Gun Sense University 2020, where I know she will inspire and motivate our leaders to continue the fight for gun safety.”

In addition to Speaker Pelosi, Jill Biden will keynote the conference and several members of Congress, elected officials, influencers and partner organizations will make virtual appearances, including Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo.
