SHOCKING: Even After New Revelations, North Carolina Republicans Still Won’t Disavow Gun Extremist Mark Robinson

October 22, 2020

As first reported by the Raleigh News & Observer, Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for North Carolina lieutenant governor and board member of the NRA, once “voiced agreement with a religious leader who says that the ‘Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’ are the Rothschild family of ‘international bankers that rule every single … central bank,’ the CIA, China and Islam.” During the same video interview, in which Robinson appeared with a religious leader who “believes that the American government will collapse and that he will ultimately become king of the United States,” Robinson decries the acceptance of LGBT people in churches, comparing being LGBT to alcoholism.

The North Carolina Republican Party “did not respond to a request for comment” about the video, the News & Observer reported Thursday afternoon.

“Mark Robinson’s gun extremism, Islamophobia, homophobia, racism, and anti-Semitism have no place in North Carolina – let alone in elected office,” said Jack Sinclair, a volunteer with the North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action. “But rather than condemn his vitriol, North Carolina Republicans have condoned his hate with their silence. Shame on them.”

The Raleigh News & Observer reports:

“The conversation is part of an interview that Mark Robinson did in 2019 with Pastor Sean Moon, whose father Sun Myung Moon founded the Unification Church, which some have called a cult.

Sean Moon’s Pennsylvania-based church believes that the American government will collapse and that he will ultimately become king of the United States, according to a 2018 Washington Post profile.

“Moon explains his theory about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, including the comments about the Rothschild family, which is a longstanding anti-Semitic trope about the influence of wealthy Jewish bankers.

“Robinson then responds “that’s exactly right. It’s amazing to me, that we live in this age of information where you can go online and you can find all this information, and it’s not hidden from anybody.”

“The N.C. Republican Party, which had previously declined to comment on Robinson’s controversial Facebook posts, did not respond to a request for comment about its candidate’s Moon interview.”

Robinson doubled down on a slew of racist, homophobic, and misogynistic social media posts during an interview with WRAL earlier this fall. As reported by WRAL, Robinson refused to apologize for past social media activity that includes posts calling Black Democrats “slaves,” claiming that homosexuality is “the end of civilization as we know it,” and anti-Semitic and other inflammatory language.

Mark Robinson is a staunch opponent of common-sense gun laws like background checks on all gun sales — a policy which North Carolina voters, including suburban women (95%), independents (94%), and undecided voters (93%) overwhelmingly support.
