Rhode Island Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Respond After Two People Were Shot and Killed and One Teenage Girl Was Shot and Wounded In Johnston, Rhode Island

The Rhode Island chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement in response to a shooting in which two adults were shot and killed and a teenage girl was shot and wounded in Johnston, Rhode Island. The shooter was fatally shot by police and the investigation is ongoing

“Our thoughts are with the families of those impacted by this tragic act of gun violence and the entire Johnston community after this deadly and traumatic incident,” said Pamela Schlomann, a volunteer with the Rhode Island chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Time and time again, gun violence continues to terrorize our communities and we remain committed to doing the necessary work to keep our kids and communities safe by advocating for common-sense gun safety laws such as requiring secure storage of firearms and prohibiting assault weapons.” 

In an average year in Rhode Island, 51 people die by guns and 165 people are wounded. Sixty percent of gun deaths are by firearm suicide.
