Everytown and Moms Demand Action Endorsed Manka Dhingra, Who Defeated Jinyoung Lee Englund in Special Election for Washington’s 45th Legislative District
OLYMPIA, Wash. – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the Washington chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today declared victory in Washington, where gun-sense champion Manka Dhingra won the special election for Washington’s 45th legislative district to replace Sen. Andy Hill who passed away last year. Dhingra ran on gun safety and won, defeating Jinyoung Lee Englund. Her victory shows that one thing is clear heading into the 2018 midterm elections: Momentum is on the side of the gun violence prevention movement.
This year, Everytown contributed the maximum donation to Dhingra’s campaign. And, volunteers with the Washington chapter of Moms Demand Action members spent countless hours knocking on doors and calling neighbors and friends about the importance of electing a representative who supports common-sense gun violence prevention policies.
“Washington voters have made it clear year after year, we want to prioritize common-sense gun safety polices,” said Laura Latta, volunteer with the Washington chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Our volunteers really dug in this election and put their energy behind electing Manka Dhingra because she made it clear she is committed to preventing gun violence.”
