West Virginia Moms Respond to House Judiciary Committee Hearing on Legislation That Would Allow Untrained, Unlicensed People to Carry Concealed, Loaded Guns in Public

January 27, 2016

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today testified in the House of Delegates Judiciary Committee against HB 4145, legislation that would allow people to carry concealed, loaded guns in public with no training or license – a repeal effort that 83 percent of state residents oppose. Last year, the West Virginia legislature passed similar legislation and Governor Earl Ray Tomblin vetoed it.

STATEMENT FROM DEE PRICE, VOLUNTEER, WEST VIRGINIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA

“Law enforcement and 83 percent of West Virginians support the existing safety training, a background check and a permit requirement to carry concealed loaded guns in public –so why on earth would we want to dismantle a system that works? HB 4145 is a dangerous attempt to repeal West Virginia’s public safety laws — the very laws meant to protect West Virginians and our families from gun violence. West Virginia moms urge our Delegates not to put our families in harm’s way by allowing untrained people to carry concealed, loaded guns in our communities.”
