Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Was Largest Outside Investor in Virginia’s 2019 Elections, Spending $2.5 Million
Virginia Moms Demand Action Successfully Activated its Volunteers to Help Replace NRA-Backed Candidates With Gun Sense Champions in NRA’s Home State
RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to the Virginia State Crime Commission’s report on gun violence in Virginia.
“This report confirms what we already knew to be true — the current legislative majority never intended to address the crisis of gun violence in the Commonwealth,” said Jennifer Herrera, a volunteer with the Virginia chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “After the disappointment of the special session, Virginians took their fight to the ballot box and voted for change. Come January, we’re looking forward to seeing Virginia’s newly elected gun sense champions in both chambers take meaningful action to prevent gun violence.”
Last week, the Virginia General Assembly flipped to a gun sense majority, with Democrats now controlling both the state Senate and House of Delegates in the NRA’s home state. Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Schoen Consulting unveiled a new poll of Virginia’s most competitive swing legislative districts revealing that gun safety was the number one issue driving voters to the polls. Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund spent $2.5 million in Virginia’s 2019 elections, spending across 22 of the most competitive Senate and House districts in Virginia. In all, 16 Everytown-endorsed candidates won their races last Tuesday.
