“It broke me.” “It was the tipping point.” “It ripped me to the core.”
These are all statements made by Greater Lafayette moms about their reactions to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December in Connecticut.
The tragedy inspired a mother in Zionsville to start Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a grassroots effort that has spawned more than 80 local chapters across the country in under three months.
One of those chapters is forming in Greater Lafayette this month. The first organizational meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. March 18 at the West Lafayette Public Library.
“If we don’t speak up, who is going to?” said Sue Eiler, a Purdue University Counseling and Psychological Services therapist.
