Everytown Invested Nearly $1M, Including on TV, Digital Ads, and a Statewide Field Program Highlighting Brad Schimel’s Extremist Views, History of Letting Domestic Abusers Walk Free and Buy Guns with No Questions Asked
MADISON, WI — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots network, Moms Demand Action, released the following statements after Judge Susan Crawford won her Wisconsin Supreme Court race:
“This result should send a crystal clear message to every elected official in the country that voters are rejecting the Donald Trump and Elon Musk agenda and the candidates Musk is trying to buy,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown was proud to support Susan Crawford’s campaign and make no mistake about it: her election is a victory for safety and security.”
“Electing judges like Susan Crawford to the Wisconsin Supreme Court is a critical step toward keeping our communities safe,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “Today’s victory is a win for our rights, our freedoms and our democracy — because our elections should be decided by the people, not bought by extremists like Elon Musk pushing their own agendas.”
Last month, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund launched a TV and digital ad in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. The ad, “87,” highlighted Brad Schimel’s support of an 1849 law banning abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest and his opposition to commonsense gun safety laws.
This victory in Wisconsin builds on recent successful Everytown efforts in state Supreme Court races. Last year, Everytown helped maintain the Michigan Supreme Court’s gun sense majority and supported Pamela Goodwine’s victory in Kentucky, flipping the Kentucky Supreme Court. In 2023, in addition to activating its grassroot network, Everytown launched two separate $500,000 independent expenditure media campaigns in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, resulting in the election of gun sense judges Janet Protasiewicz and Daniel McCaffery, respectively. In 2022, Everytown and Everytown for Gun Safety Illinois launched a successful $700,000 effort to elect Richard Bernstein to the Michigan Supreme Court, and Elizabeth Rochford and Mary O’Brien to the Illinois Supreme Court.
