LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement applauding the Nebraska legislature for adjourning without passing the following dangerous gun bills:
- LB 343, which would have allowed teachers to carry hidden, loaded guns on school grounds.
- LB 54, which would have allowed people to carry concealed handguns in public with no background check and no safety training.
“As our elected officials recognize, rolling back Nebraska gun laws would bring real public safety consequences,” said Megan Gentrup, volunteer chapter leader with the Nebraska chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We’re grateful to all of the lawmakers we spoke with this session about the importance of preventing gun violence, and we look forward to continuing conversations about how to best protect Nebraska communities.”
This legislative session, the Nebraska chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America helped defeat these bills by holding an advocacy day at the Nebraska State Capitol, testifying in opposition to LB 343 and LB 54, and driving calls and emails to lawmakers urging them to reject these bills.
