Volunteers With the Louisiana Chapter of Moms Demand Action Supported Lawmakers in Their Efforts to Stop Bills Including Preemption and Stand Your Ground Legislation
BATON ROUGE, La. — Volunteers with the Louisiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today marked the official end of the legislative session by applauding the defeat of dangerous gun bills:
HB 235, which would have dangerously expanded Louisiana’s Stand Your Ground law in places of worship.
HB 281, which would have eliminated the authority of local governments to prohibit guns in certain businesses and public buildings.
HB 413, which would have forced local banks and other financial institutions to do business with the firearms industry.
“We worked hard this session to educate and support our lawmakers as they fought against bills that would have threatened public safety,” said Angelle Bradford, volunteer leader with the Louisiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “I’m grateful for the lawmakers who listened, learned and sided with gun safety. It doesn’t stop here; we’ll advocate for common-sense gun legislation until everyone in Louisiana is free from fear of gun violence.”
This legislative session, the Louisiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America supported lawmakers in the successful efforts to defeat these bills by:
Organizing an advocacy day with dozens of Moms Demand Action volunteers to educate members of the legislature about the dangers these bills presented.
Delivering a petition signed by over 1,100 Louisianans to oppose an expansion of Louisiana’s preemption law.
Regularly testifying before legislative committees in opposition to bills that would threaten Louisiana communities.
Driving thousands of calls and digital messages to lawmakers urging them to side with public safety and reject these bills.
