Significant Everytown Investment in Pennsylvania Builds on Recent State Supreme Court Race Successes in Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, and Illinois
NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, and Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund released the following statements after Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht won their retention elections to serve another 10 year term.
“By re-electing Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht, Pennsylvanians reaffirmed their support for courts that are not beholden to the gun industry or their deadly agenda,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “These Justices have shown that common-sense gun safety laws and the Constitution go hand-in-hand, and Everytown was proud to support their re-election.”
“With Justices Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht returning to the bench, Pennsylvanians can trust that common-sense gun safety laws will continue to be upheld,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “Our movement has made lifesaving progress in Pennsylvania, and their re-elections prove that voters are continuing to choose safety, accountability, and a future free from gun violence.”
These victories in Pennsylvania mark the latest success in Everytown’s efforts to elect gun sense judges to state supreme courts. Earlier this year, Everytown invested nearly $1 million in TV and digital ads and ran a statewide field program to elect Susan Crawford to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. That followed a 2024 cycle in which Everytown and Everytown Victory Fund helped maintain the Michigan Supreme Court’s gun sense majority and supported Pamela Goodwine’s victory in Kentucky, flipping control of the Kentucky Supreme Court. In earlier election cycles, investments across Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin helped elect Judges Elizabeth Rochford, Mary O’Brien, Richard Bernstein, Daniel McCaffery, and Janet Protasiewicz, solidifying gun safety majorities in key states nationwide.
