Johnson Defeats MAGA Sheriff Adam Fortney in Washington’s Third Largest County After Investment From Everytown and Partners
WASHINGTON — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, released the following statements after gun sense candidate Susanna Johnson defeated MAGA extremist Sheriff Adam Fortney in the Snohomish County, Washington Sheriff’s race:
“With gun sense champion Susanna Johnson’s victory in the race for Snohomish County Sheriff, Washington voters have turned the page on MAGA sheriff Adam Fortney and his ‘guns everywhere agenda’ that fanned the flames of extremism,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Susanna Johnson’s win is a major victory for safer communities in Snohomish County and serves further proof that gun safety is a winning issue up and down the ballot.”
“Washington voters have chosen a sheriff that prioritizes gun safety and Snohomish County families will be safer for it,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “We are excited to continue supporting newly elected Sheriff Susanna Johnson as she works to keep her community free from gun violence.”
This month, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund launched digital ads in the Snohomish County Sheriff’s race, standing alongside Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility, who sent direct mail voter communications in the race. Their efforts marked the largest spends in recent Snohomish County sheriff’s races.
In 2021, the Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund launched a successful pilot program to defeat the gun lobby-backed sheriff of Erie County, Pennsylvania. In the 2022 midterms, the Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund built on that success, launching a $500,000 sheriff engagement program that successfully elected John Allen as Bernalillo County Sheriff in New Mexico and ousted 25-year incumbent Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson in Massachusetts.
