McCaffery Defeats Gun Lobby-Backed Carolyn Carluccio After Everytown’s $500,000 Investment in Pennsylvania Supreme Court Race
WASHINGTON — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, released the following statements after gun sense candidate Daniel McCaffery defeated MAGA extremist Judge Carolyn Carluccio in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court race:
“After defeating MAGA candidates in 2020 and 2022, Pennsylvania voters once again rejected the MAGA agenda and elected a judge who understands that common-sense gun laws are entirely consistent with the Second Amendment,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “State supreme courts play a critical role in preventing gun violence, and Daniel McCaffery’s victory is further proof that voters in 2024 battleground states are looking for leaders who will stand up for their safety.”
“This is a huge victory for Pennsylvanians, who deserve a Supreme Court justice who recognizes that protecting communities from gun violence is compatible with the Second Amendment,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. “Our grassroots leaders are going to keep building on this momentum, and continue fighting for gun sense leaders at every level of government.”
In October, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund launched a $500,000 investment in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court race, including a TV and digital ad highlighting Carolyn Carluccio’s MAGA extremist agenda and ties to the gun lobby.
Today’s victory in Pennsylvania joins the ranks of recent gun sense victories for state Supreme Courts. Earlier this year, Everytown activated its grassroots networks to turn out the vote and ran a $500,000 independent expenditure paid media campaign for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Gun sense Judge Janet Protasiewicz’s 11-point victory further proved the power of gun safety as a winning issue. In 2022, Everytown launched a $700,000 effort that resulted in state Supreme Court victories in Michigan and Illinois.
