SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to reports of a school shooting at Alpine High School on Thursday morning. One student was reportedly shot multiple times before the shooter, another student, shot and killed herself. Everytown and Moms Demand Action have kept an index of school shootings in America since 2013. This is at least the 33rd school shooting in 2016, and the 193rd school shooting since January 2013.

STATEMENT FROM ANGELA TURNER, VOLUNTEER WITH THE TEXAS CHAPTER, MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“As Texas students head back to class, I am devastated that a school community has once again experienced the trauma of gun violence. Our thoughts are with the students, faculty and families affected by the shooting at Alpine High School. I am particularly saddened to learn that it was a high school student who committed this crime. As a mom of three and a gun owner, I know the importance of keeping guns safely locked and away from kids. We have to demand better of our communities. This is at least the 193rd school shooting since 2013 and the 33rd this year. I hope Texans will take this sad day as a reminder that we have to do more to keep our kids safe. We need to work together to reduce gun violence.”
