Texas Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Statement Following Shooting at Party in Harris County

HOUSTON, Texas — The Texas chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement after at least three people were shot, one fatally, at a party in Harris County early this morning. At least 49 shots were reportedly fired, and one of the firearms recovered was reportedly an assault weapon. 

“Texans shouldn’t have to worry about gun violence at parties, or anywhere else we go, for that matter – but because of our lax gun laws, we have to,” said Calandrian Simpson-Kemp, a volunteer with the Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action and a member of the Everytown Survivor Network. “Our hearts are with everyone impacted by this devastating shooting, and we’ll keep fighting the devastating gun violence epidemic that is overwhelming our state.” 

Additionally, on Monday night, two people – including a 13-year-old boy – were shot and wounded after a shooter approached a crowd in San Antonio and opened fire.
