NEW YORK — Following one of the the deadliest mass shootings of law enforcement officers in U.S. history last night in Dallas, John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement:
STATEMENT FROM EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY PRESIDENT JOHN FEINBLATT:
“The shooting in Dallas last night was one of the largest mass shootings of law enforcement in U.S. history. While protecting the rights of peaceful protestors, five officers were assassinated in the line of duty, while seven others were injured. This shooting was a cruel and violent attack on law enforcement, who fell victim to our nation’s culture of violence and unfettered access to guns.
“In just the last few days, we’ve seen how gun violence takes many forms on our nation’s cities and streets, including in Louisiana and Minnesota — but the common factor is that there are far too many families and communities suffering today because their loved ones’ lives were senselessly taken. We mourn with them.
“What we do know is that they are all a part of the terrible portrait of gun violence in America. Each of the lives that were cut short in these horrific events this week is part of the daily toll of gun violence that kills 91 Americans and injures hundreds more.
“As the country’s largest gun violence prevention organization, we are focused on ending gun violence. We must change the laws and the culture that has led to our country having a gun murder rate that is 25 times that of other developed nations. We invite Americans to join us in demanding that political leaders take action to reduce gun violence in all of its forms, in all of our communities.”
