Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia told The Stamford Advocate that event planners should be “sensitive” to the timing of the show. Waterbury, CT’s police chief has halted permits for gun shows, saying he’s concerned a firearm purchased in his city might one day be used in a mass shooting.

The 8th Annual East Coast Fine Arms Show will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stamford, CT on Saturday and Sunday.
The show will happen only about 40 miles away from where Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother as she slept in her bed on Dec. 14, before his rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary.
“In light of the recent tragic events in Newtown, as a community, we are sensitive to the emotions and feelings of all of those who have suffered losses and are still grieving,” Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia said in a statement to WFSB. “Holding such an event at this time, and in such close proximity to the Newtown, seems untimely and insensitive. I would encourage the organizers to reconsider holding the event at this time.”
