Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Reached Out to Hundreds of Thousands of Voters During Runoff Election to Support Senator Warnock
ATLANTA — Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as Georgia voters rejected gun lobby-backed Herschel Walker and re-elected Raphael Warnock to the U.S. Senate.
“Senator Warnock’s victory over a gun rights extremist is further proof that Georgians stand with the vast majority of Americans who support common-sense gun safety laws,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown was incredibly proud to support his campaign, and we are eager to partner with him again to keep making progress in Washington.”
“Senator Warnock helped usher in a gun sense majority who acted courageously and delivered the biggest federal gun safety legislation in a generation, and our volunteers were proud to help re-elect him,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “As a faith leader and a lawmaker, Senator Warnock’s leadership on this issue has been crucial, and we are proud to send this gun sense champion back to Congress for a second term.”
“This is a major win for Georgia, and we’re proud to stand alongside Senator Warnock in this hard-fought victory,” said Julvonnia McDowell, a volunteer with the Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action whose son 14-year-old son, JaJuan, was unintentionally shot and killed by another teen playing with an unsecured gun in 2016. “Senator Warnock is a proven leader in the fight for gun safety, and I know he will continue to work hard to make Georgia safe from gun violence.”
Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Georgia spent more than $1.4 million in Georgia this election to support gun sense candidates, including Senator Warnock. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers reached out to hundreds of thousands of Georgia voters through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, peer-to-peer postcards and more during the runoff election to support Senator Warnock.
As part of its efforts this election cycle, Everytown also released polling this fall showing that the vast majority of voters in Georgia support common-sense gun safety laws, including 91% for background checks on all gun sales. More information is available here.
