PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today applauded the Rhode Island Senate for passing S84, legislation to prohibit undetectable, untraceable firearms, commonly known as “ghost guns.” Downloadable gun technology is profoundly dangerous, allowing anyone to build untraceable firearms on demand at home with 3D printers or from parts and kits widely available online. It also allows people who cannot legally purchase firearms to obtain a gun with a criminal background check.
“Guns that cannot be traced by law enforcement officers can be used to commit crimes and threaten public safety,” said Jennifer Boylan, a volunteer with Rhode Island chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We’re glad to see our lawmakers recognize these risks and take action to keep our communities safe and to regulate the fabrication of illegal guns.”
