PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement after Governor Gina Raimondo and Attorney General Peter Neronha announced support for a gun safety legislative package. The package includes policies that would prohibit the sale of high capacity magazines and assault weapons and strengthen an existing state law that prohibits guns in K through 12 schools.
“These policies will save lives,” said Amy Herlihy, volunteer leader with the Rhode Island chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We’ve always said there is more to be done to prevent gun violence in Rhode Island and today’s legislative package proposal is a much-needed next step to addressing that fact. The legislature needs to pass this gun safety package immediately.”
