ATLANTA — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund (“Everytown”) and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, today declared a major victory as voters rejected NRA-backed Karen Handel and re-elected Rep. Lucy McBath to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund spent more than $4.2 million in Georgia this cycle, including nearly $3 million to support Rep. McBath, a former employee of Everytown and volunteer with Moms Demand Action, against Handel. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 110,000 calls and texts to support gun sense candidates in Georgia. Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts also did virtual campaign events with Rep. McBath.
“Representative McBath’s reelection is a triumph for every Georgian who wants common-sense gun safety laws, and a fitting tribute to her son, Jordan, who was murdered with a gun eight years ago,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown will always have Lucy’s back, and we’ll continue to work closely with her to keep gun safety bills moving through the House.”
“Rep. McBath is the definition of a gun sense champion, and I’m proud to call her my friend and one of my personal heroes,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “She’s dedicated her life to honoring Jordan’s memory, she’s been a powerful, thoughtful, and passionate advocate in her first term, and we can’t wait to see what she does next in Congress.”
“Throughout her time in Congress, Rep. McBath has fought day-in, day-out to keep our families safe,” said Courtney Spriggs, volunteer with the Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We’re inspired every day by her incredible advocacy, and we’re so proud she’s our representative.”
