April 18, 2022

PITTSBURGH, Penn. – The Pennsylvania chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement after at least 10 people were shot, two fatally, at a party in Pittsburgh on Sunday morning. Both of the people who were shot and killed were under 18.

“Gun violence continues to tear through our community, and our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this terrible shooting,” said Hadley Haas, a volunteer with the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action from Pittsburgh. “Officials at every level must do more to stop this devastating epidemic.”

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, this shooting was one of four in less than 30 hours in Pittsburgh and the largest in the city since the 2018 Tree of Life synagogue shooting. In an average year in Pennsylvania, 1,628 people die by guns, and 3,058 more are wounded by guns. More information on gun violence in Pennsylvania is available here.
