HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today applauded Pennsylvania Attorney General Shapiro for introducing a new program to help fight illegal gun trafficking by improving access to data about guns used to commit crimes. More information about the Track + Trace program is available here.
“We’re thrilled to see the Attorney General’s office implement this comprehensive program to keep illegal guns off our streets.” said Marybeth Christiansen, a volunteer with the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “The systems used to prevent gun violence are only as good as the information that goes into them, and this program will certainly improve that.”
Recently Pennsylvania has experienced a spike in shootings, killing multiple people and leaving dozens wounded. In Philadelphia, there were at least 19 shootings over the course one weekend in June, in which five people were shot and killed and 28 were wounded. And just a few days after the violent weekend, 10 people were wounded in a shooting at a nightclub in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
