The Ohio chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s volunteer networks, today released the following statement on reports that five people, including three children, were shot and killed in an Elyria home Wednesday morning:
“Our hearts break for the victims and all those affected by this senseless gun violence,” said Laura Irvin, volunteer with the Ohio chapter of Moms Demand Action. “When will lawmakers wake up and act? This family, these children, should still be with us today. We’ll never stop fighting for a safer Ohio free from gun violence.”
Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that the mass shooting in Elyria was at least the 235th mass shooting since January 2009. Every day in the U.S. on average, more than 100 people are killed with guns, and 200 more are wounded – the majority of which do not take place during mass shootings.
