Ohio Moms Demand Action, Everytown Respond to Reports That Sibling Killed in Dayton Mass Shooting was a Transgender Man

Shooter’s Trans Brother was First Fatality in Mass Shooting in Dayton’s Oregon District

Jordan Cofer is at Least the 14 Trans Person Killed Nationwide This Year; at Least 12 Were Killed With a Gun 

DAYTON, OH — The Ohio chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to reports that the slain sibling of the Dayton shooter was a transgender man. According to reports, Jordan Cofer was among the first victims in a mass shooting that killed nine people and left 14 more with gunshot wounds, less than 24 hours after a different mass shooting in El Paso.

At least 14 transgender people have been killed nationwide this year, at least 12 of whom were killed with a gun. Before Jordan, 100 percent of trans people killed this year were Black women.

“We extend our condolences to all those who loved and cherished Jordan,” said Susie Lane, a volunteer with the Ohio chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Senseless deaths and gun violence must end, and we will not stop fighting to make our communities safer for everyone.”
