Volunteers with the North Dakota Chapter of Moms Demand Action, Gun Violence Survivor Testified Earlier This Month Against House Bill 1310

BISMARCK, N.D. – Volunteers with the North Dakota chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today applauded the North Dakota Senate for rejecting House Bill 1310, legislation that would have created a pilot program to allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. The Senate rejected HB 1310 on a 27-18 vote.

Earlier this month, Moms Demand Action volunteers joined community members in urging lawmakers to reject HB 1310. The bill was also opposed by ND United, the North Dakota School Boards Association, the ND Council of Educational Leaders and others.

STATEMENT FROM CATHY LEE, VOLUNTEER WITH THE NORTH DAKOTA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“I am proud of the Senators who voted on behalf of the safety of our children. By rejecting this legislation, our elected leaders are listening to the voices of students, faculty members and concerned parents like me who testified before them recently. North Dakota has a long history of responsible gun ownership and today our elected officials made it clear they want it to stay that way. I am thrilled that our lawmakers listened to their constituents and are making the safety of our children a top priority.”
