Following Momentum of Gun Safety Victory Protecting Background Checks from Gun Lobby Repeal Attempt, Cumberland County Board of Commissioners Votes 6-1 to Prohibit Open Carry on County Property
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement today in support of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners’ vote to make it illegal to openly carry firearms on county property.
Statement from Sarah Green, volunteer Chapter Leader of North Carolina Moms Demand Action:
“We’re pleased that Cumberland County has continued North Carolina’s gun safety momentum by voting to prohibit open carry on county property. Just weeks after the Legislature stripped a gun lobby-backed provision out of HB 562 that would have repealed North Carolina’s background check requirement for all handgun sales, county officials have taken another important stand for public safety. Moms refuse to be forced to decide whether people who are openly carrying guns around our families are doing so because they are members of law enforcement sworn to protect us, or if they are activists making a political statement, or dangerous criminals who shouldn’t have guns in the first place.”
