Authorities Report at Least 2 People Shot and Killed, 4 Injured; a Suspect is in Custody
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to reports of a shooting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte that reportedly left two people dead and four injured, two with life-threatening injuries. Authorities report one suspect is in custody.
This incident is at least the 39th instance of gunfire on school grounds in 2019.
“Our community is heartbroken and horrified as we wait to learn more about what happened today,” said Grace McLain, volunteer with the North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America in Charlotte. “My heart is with the families of the victims, and with those injured who are now fighting for their lives. We can’t accept a reality in which students on campus are not safe from gun violence.”
