Over the past week, you may have seen cultural influencers including Elizabeth Banks, Laura Dern, Amy Schumer, Ian Harding, Jason George, Big Freedia, Justin Tranter and Pete Wentz joining for an Instagram Takeover Series in which they engaged volunteers from Everytown for Gun Safety’s 6 million strong Students Demand Action and Moms Demand Action grassroots networks, sharing their platforms to highlight ways that we can all help to ensure safe and equitable access to the ballot on Election Day. The series kicked off last Monday with actress and chair of the Everytown Creative Council Julianne Moore and also included influencers like Mindy Kaling who joined to share the call to action with her millions of followers.
With just three weeks remaining until Election Day, the effort is all part of Democracy Demands Action, a large-scale, non-partisan effort to help ensure the safety and integrity of the 2020 election, launched by Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund (“Everytown”), together with the grassroots networks Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action.
The recently launched Democracy Demands Action initiative highlights three key Election Day actions that volunteers can take in their local communities to support every voter’s right to cast their ballots, including becoming a poll worker, becoming a poll monitor or voter hotline volunteer, and becoming part of the Moms Demand Action ‘Voter Support Squad’ to provide voters with the resources they may need to stay in line to cast their ballot.
