Initial Reports Indicate At least Four People Were Shot and Killed and At Least Three Wounded During a Mass Shooting in Brooklyn on Saturday Morning
NEW YORK — The New York chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to reports that at least four people were shot and killed and at least three people wounded during a shooting that took place Saturday morning in Brooklyn. According to initial reports, police do not yet have a suspect.
“Our hearts are with Brooklyn as we wake up to another senseless shooting,” said Allison Peters, a volunteer with the New York chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “People should be free to live without the fear of being shot — whether at school, a place of worship or a social club. As we grieve with Brooklyn, we also urge lawmakers outside New York to use their power to enact common-sense gun laws when Congress returns to work next week, and help prevent future gun violence from hurting more communities.”
Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that this is at least the 24th mass shooting this year. Everytown defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot and killed, excluding the shooter.
Every day in the U.S. on average, 100 Americans are killed with guns, and hundreds more are shot and wounded.
