NEW YORK – The Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the New Jersey
chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, today applauded the election of gun sense champion and Moms Demand Action volunteer Christine McGrath to the Verona Town Council in New Jersey. The Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund endorsed McGrath, who was a leader in her local Moms Demand Action chapter prior to running for office.
STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“As the largest gun violence prevention grassroots network in the nation, Moms Demand Action volunteers have a presence in every corner of their communities. That reach now extends to elected office. From city council to Congress, more and more Moms Demand Action volunteers like Christine McGrath are moving from shaping policy as advocates to making it as elected officials.”
STATEMENT FROM BRETT SABO, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE NEW JERSEY CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“We are so proud of Christine, who will be just as thoughtful and determined an elected official as she is a leader for us. She has been a huge asset to our Moms Demand Action chapter and I have no doubt that she’ll be just as savvy and hardworking as an elected official, too.”
McGrath’s win follows the election of another Moms Demand Action volunteer endorsed by Everytown, Movita Johnson-Harell, who is a Philadelphia-based gun violence survivor. Johnson-Harell won a special election for Pennsylvania House of Representatives District 190 in March.
