CONCORD, N.H. – The New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, applauded the New Hampshire Senate Judiciary Committee for advancing legislation to prevent gun violence. The legislation passed by the committee, which now heads to the Senate for a floor vote, includes:
- HB 109, legislation that would require background checks for all commercial gun sales. This bill will close a loophole that allows prohibited people to purchase firearms from unlicensed sellers they find online or at gun shows without a background check;
- HB 514, legislation that would require a waiting period for all firearm purchases; and
- HB 564, legislation that would prohibit the possession of guns in K-12 schools
“Today’s vote is a victory for public safety,” said Deidre Reynolds, a volunteer with the New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “This is the farthest this gun safety legislation has advanced in the legislature, and it puts us one step closer to seeing these common-sense bills become law.”
Twenty-one states require background checks on all handgun sales, but New Hampshire does not. Everytown recently conducted polling that demonstrated widespread support for gun safety legislation among adults in New Hampshire:
- 90 percent of Granite Staters and 85 percent of Granite State gun owners support criminal background checks for all gun sales.
- 81 percent of New Hampshire voters support a seven-day waiting period for gun sales.
