Missouri Moms Demand Action Volunteers Met with Legislators During Annual Advocacy Day, Urging Them To Block Attempts To Allow Hidden, Loaded Handguns in K-12 Schools, College Facilities, Bars and Other Sensitive Places
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – More than 150 volunteers with the Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and the Everytown Survivor Network, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, met with their representatives today and urged them to oppose dangerous bills filed this session, including proposals to allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in elementary, middle and high schools; on college and university campuses; and in bars. More information about these proposals is available here.
“The volunteers here today have different backgrounds, politics and points of view, but we all agree our leaders have to make the safety of our communities a priority,” said Becky Morgan, volunteer chapter leader with the Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We urge our leaders to put public safety first and oppose these dangerous gun lobby proposals.”
“After my two sons were shot and killed in St. Louis, the grief was unbearable. But today that loss moves me to take action,” said Valerie Dent, a member of Everytown Survivor Network and President of Mothers in Charge, a local violence prevention group. “Our representatives in Jefferson City have a responsibility to protect our communities, and we demand they do so by opposing these dangerous bills.”
