House Bill 494 Seeks to Promote Gun Lobby’s Dangerous “Guns Everywhere” Agenda by Allowing Hidden, Loaded Handguns in Restaurants That Serve Alcohol
HELENA, Mont. – The Montana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today criticized lawmakers in the Senate Judiciary Committee for passing House Bill 494, legislation that would that would allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns in restaurants that serve alcohol.
STATEMENT FROM KIELY LAMMERS, VOLUNTEER WITH THE MONTANA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“The Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote today is disappointing. I grew up in a gun-owning household, and I was taught that alcohol and guns don’t mix. House Bill 494 flies in the face of that common-sense. When I take my family out to dinner, I simply do not want to worry if the person next to me is carrying a gun. All it takes is one mistake for a life changing tragedy and and research shows that consuming alcohol leads to impaired judgment. So far this legislative session, we’ve seen the gun lobby’s dangerous agenda rejected numerous times. I hope our elected officials continue this progress by rejecting HB 494 – a dangerous threat to our public safety.”
