Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Applaud D.C. City Council’s Approval of Omnibus Public Safety and Justice Act

The D.C. chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Students Demand Action, both a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement after the D.C. City Council passed the Omnibus Public Safety and Justice Act, which includes measures to prohibit the sale and possession of ghost guns and strengthen D.C. Extreme Risk Protection Order law. 

“The District is facing a gun violence crisis, and these measures are a good start towards preventing shootings and saving lives,” said Linell Grundman, a volunteer with the Washington, D.C. chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We’re grateful to our city councilmembers for fighting for these common-sense measures.”

The number of homicides in D.C. have broken records from previous years, the highest since 2008. On Wednesday evening, a 1-year-old boy was shot and killed in a car, underscoring gun violence’s devastating toll on children in the District.
