The Wisconsin chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement in response to a shooting on the Milwaukee campus of Molson Coors:
“It’s another dark day in Wisconsin,” said Andrea Fischer, a volunteer with Wisconsin Moms Demand Action. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this horrific shooting. We’ll be fighting harder than ever for the safer Wisconsin we all deserve and we hope it won’t take another tragedy to bring lawmakers to their senses.”
In November, the leaders of both the Wisconsin Assembly and the Wisconsin Senate ended special sessions on gun violence shortly after gaveling them in.
Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that, based on developing details this is at least the 227th mass shooting since January 2009. Every day in the U.S. on average, more than 100 people are killed with guns, and hundreds more are wounded – the majority of which do not take place during mass shootings.
Everytown defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot and killed, excluding the shooter. An analysis of mass shootings from 2009 to 2018 shows there were a total of 194 mass shootings, which left 1,121 people dead and an additional 836 people wounded.
