Daughter of Sandy Hook Psychologist Mary Sherlach to focus on School Safety Issues
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America announced today that Maura Sherlach Schwartz will serve as a national spokesperson for the growing grassroots movement, focusing on school safety issues. Schwartz is the daughter of Mary Sherlach, the school psychologist killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT., on Dec. 14, 2012, with five other educators and 20 school children.
Like her mother, Schwartz is a dedicated educator. After studying musical theater at Shenandoah University in Winchester, she went on to receive her Masters of Arts in Teaching from University of the Arts in Philadelphia 2009. She has just begun her 5th year as the music teacher and choir director at Salem City High School in Salem, NJ. As a teacher, she is committed to creating a safe learning environment for all American students, and ensuring that our schools are free from gun violence.
“I am looking forward to working with Moms Demand Action to promote school safety awareness,” said Schwartz. “Working towards common sense gun reforms is an important part of safety in America’s schools.”
