Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Contributed $50,000; Virginia Moms Demand Action Supporters Volunteered for His Campaign
RICHMOND, Va. – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the Virginia chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today declared victory in Virginia. Gun-sense champions won up and down the ballot, including in Virginia’s 12th district, where Chris Hurst beat the incumbent. Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund contributed $50,000 toward the Hurst campaign, and volunteers with the Virginia chapter of Moms Demand Action were out in force for Hurst.
Delegate-elect Chris Hurst was moved to leave broadcasting and pursue elected office after his girlfriend, Alison Parker, and her cameraman, Adam Ward, were shot and killed on live television in 2015.
STATEMENT FROM LAUREN SOUCY, VOLUNTEER WITH THE VIRGINIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION IN BLACKSBURG:
“Moms Demand Action volunteers worked overtime to elect Chris Hurst, who has deep roots in the community and knows all too well the pain of having a loved one killed by gun violence. Virginians are proving today that we are willing to stand up for gun safety and reject the NRA even in its backyard.”
