Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a grassroots organization of over 100,000 members, issued the following statement today regarding the Obama Administration’s announcement of two new executive actions to keep some of the most dangerous guns, such as machine guns and military-grade weapons, off the streets and out of the wrong hands.
“We applaud these common-sense steps the Administration announced today. Like so many things about our gun policy, it is almost ridiculous to think that these steps were necessary. It is common sense to prevent felons from so easily circumventing background checks, and we should not allow private entities to purchase military-grade assault weapons any more than we should allow them to buy tanks.
“These are important steps in the right direction. But we need to do more. There are still too many dangerous guns available too easily, endangering our children. Only Congress can close the loopholes and strengthen the lax laws that have cost too many lives. On behalf of the more than 100,000 moms in every state of the nation in our organization, we demand that Congress recognize the urgent need for these common-sense reforms and heed our call to protect our families.”
