Downloadable Guns Will Enable Anyone, Including Terrorists, Convicted Felons and Domestic Abusers, to Download Schematics Online and Print Their Own Untraceable Guns
This Morning, Military Veterans Sent a Letter to Secretary Pompeo Urging the State Department to Block the Publication of Downloadable Gun Blueprints
WASHINGTON – This morning, members of the Everytown for Gun Safety Veterans Advisory Council sent a letter to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo urging the State Department to block the publication of blueprints for downloadable, untraceable guns. Current law prevents the online publication of digital plans that allow for the 3D printing of firearms, but that may change in the coming days: The State Department says it will give a special license to a private company later this week, and the company says it will post its gun blueprints online on August 1.
Military veterans know how destructive firearms can be, especially in the wrong hands. As the letter states, “We support the federal laws that work to keep the public safe, which rely on criminal background checks to block gun possession by those who pose a danger to society. And we believe strongly that downloadable firearms will undermine those laws, enabling anyone to print their own AR-15 or handgun with commercially available 3D printing technology and stymieing the work of police who recover crime guns that are untraceable.”
Additional information about the dangers of downloadable guns is available here.
