Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country
BOSTON, M.A. — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Geoff Diehl and elected Attorney General Maura Healey as Governor of Massachusetts. Governor-elect Healey is the first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ person to be elected as the Governor of Massachusetts.
“Governor-elect Healey is a committed gun sense champion who will do everything in her power to make sure Massachusetts remains a national leader on gun safety,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to count Governor-elect Healey as a partner, and we’re eager to work with her to pass more common-sense gun safety laws.”
“Governor-elect Healey is a proven ally in the fight to end gun violence, and she is exactly the kind of leader Massachusetts needs,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “We are proud to be her partners in this fight, and we will do everything we can to support her as she works to keep Massachusetts families safe.”
“As Attorney General, Maura Healey has demonstrated true leadership in the fight to end gun violence. She knows the toll that gun violence takes on our communities, and we know that she will implement evidence-based solutions that will save lives,” said Ilyse Levine-Kanji, a volunteer with the Massachusetts chapter of Moms Demand Action whose mentor, Jack Berman, was one of eight people killed at a mass shooting at a workplace in San Francisco in 1993. “We’ll continue to work with her every step of the way as she fights for the common-sense gun laws that we need.”
Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.
